POLYCOPIES Book Market on the boat Concorde Atlantique in Paris

PARIS, a boat by the river, a coffee shop and a terrace, and 35 photobook publishers from all over the world!

These are some of the ingredients Polycopies has mixed together hoping to create a book market with a festival-like atmosphere. This first edition of this « salon des livres » is taking place on the boat Concorde-Atlantique below the Musée D’Orsay.

During four days, running parallel to the Paris Photo fair, these 35 publishers will bring you a large selection of newly published books, organizing numerous meetings and signings with photographers.

Diane Vincent | OBEN

It’s thirty-six degrees. A dry desert sun burns the roof.
From up here the vast empty ground seems endless.
The heat and the wind touch my skin.
I open a door,
the background noise of the city fades away.
With my eyes closed I see an ocean of weightless light rays –
dancing, floating…
I trust my body.
I’m here.

For several years I climbed numerous rooftops to make pictures, over and over again. For a long time I didn’t know exactly why; I simply felt attached to these strange, unknown and obscure places. I explored my city from a different angle and I photographed architectural situations up there being fascinated by the vastness and expanse as well as its limitation by moments of blocked sights. Eventually I realized that I had compiled a personal map – an imaginary walk in another dimension.

Werner Amann – Surf Fiction

SURF FICTION is Werner Amann’s unpublished work from 1997. It engages with social reality and image bound-culture in Los Angeles and other urban centers in the U.S. Beyond a mere documentary or created approach, SURF FICTION interlinks photography with collages, typography, video stills, abrupt breaks and double page spreads – switching with each page turn from one plot to another. The work plays with projections of a myth that regenerates itself from day to day, producing an image of Los Angeles and at the same time a visual reflection on modern reality. (mehr …)

Polixeni Papapetrou | Lost Psyche

Opening: Wednesday 29 October 6-8pm
Exhibition: 29 October to 29 November 2014
Stills Gallery Sydney, Australia

Press release by Stills Gallery:
In Lost Psyche, Polixeni Papapetrou portrays emblematic figures that have come to the end of their tradition, their rationale, their place in the world. These intriguing and charismatic characters—the poet, the tourist, the immigrant, among others—bring to life antique Victorian paper masks. Yet, despite being cast beyond our immediate reality, their costumes harking back to earlier times, their settings to fantastical places, these archetypal figures live on in the cultural imagination. Galerie Ori: Constanze Kratzsch | Fiction

ERINNERUNG

Die Galerie Franzkowiak präsentiert anlässlich des 1. Monats der Fotografie OFF in Berlin die Gruppenausstellung ÜBERGANG. ERINNERUNG.
