Widephoto | Contemporary photography workshops in Barcelona

Registrations for the Widephoto workshops in Barcelona with Taiyo Onorato & Nico Krebs (1, 2, 3 March) and Mishka Henner (5, 6, 7 April) are now open!

Widephoto offers a program of learning, exchange and debate around innovative proposals in the field of contemporary photography. For that reason, we invite well versed curators and theoreticians to give specially developed presentations, design practice-oriented workshops by photographers who have stood out due to their innovative work process’ and organize informal gatherings around a dinning table to share that knowledge in a relaxed and closer way.

Widephoto is a new initiative by Meeatings23 and Jon Uriarte that bets on new key players, on the evolution of contents and on the experimentation in the various forms by which they are produced, shared and spread. (mehr …)

piK Magazine

PiK is a limited edition magazine dedicated to promoting photographers worldwide.

Created in 2012, PiK constitutes a platform where the work of recognised Photographers and those of emerging talents converge. Each issue is part of a limited edition, 100 copies, so as to maintain a certain value within the object. To concentrate all the attention of the readers on the photographers, the magazine is independant and advert free. The magazine is available to purchase through the website as well as in a selection of galleries and bookstores. Each photographer will also have the possibility to exhibit images from their series, printed and framed. reality is an ambivalent structure, a mental frontier between things, an undefined border separating concrete and elusive fields of materiality and the invisible.

„Human Chassis is a Photographic study of the special isolation that links a driver to their vehicle, effecting a unique and introverted process of thought that could only occur in this private sanctuary.“

I originally wanted to make work on the subject after becoming bored of driving the same routes over and over and over again. I would find myself at a destination with little memory of the journey. I found that really intriguing (as well as terrifying from a road safety standpoint). There is something uniquely private and lonely about being in a car, I really wanted to photograph it. (mehr …)

romka magazine #7

…is out now!

Since 4 years the independent photography magazine has been offering a platform for photographs that really mean something. People from all over the world submit their favorite pictures and tell the stories that lie behind them. romka is a collective photo album in which both amateurs and professionals archive their memories. The readers are encouraged to submit their own favorite photographs to participate in the ongoing project.

Issue 7 collects the most treasured pictures of 58 photographers from 21 countries, ranging from Japan to Belgium and Argentina. No difference is made between amateur hobbyists and renowned photo artists. (mehr …)

Amaury da Cunha | Après tout

Après tout (After All) represents a turning point in the work of Amaury da Cunha.
His previous series, Saccades (Jolts), was somewhat luminous, infused with a sense of wonder facing the world. Après tout darkens in tone, as wonder gives way to bewilderment. Invading shadows are the backdrop for a photographer depicting himself as blinded. Death and sex are less allusive. A dog bares its fangs, while a bird of prey claws a branch. Yet shafts of light or a glimpsed road suggest that the end is not as impending as we may think. (mehr …)

Lars Tunbjörk | Vinter

Snowbound streets, buildings and abandoned cars, a dirty snowman standing forlorn in a garden.
But interiors too, and portraits of people in their homes, at work, in cafés and at parties.

For his series Vinter (Winter), Lars Tunbjörk travelled through Sweden from 2004 to 2007 capturing the melancholy winter atmosphere of Northern Europe and recording the mental state that closes in on the people of Scandinavia in the dark months of the year. For Tunbjörk himself, the project was originally primarily a creative way to cope with his own depressive mood, which regularly beset him in the winter months. (mehr …)

PICTURE BERLIN

PICTURE BERLIN, founded in 2009, is a nonprofit artist initiated hybrid residency/art academy which encourages participating artists to engage in an active discourse surrounding art and contemporary photography while simultaneously giving them a chance to develop their work. This perspective is unusual within a European residency context as the program facilitates each individual approach by offering close mentoring from internationally practicing artists and free-lance curators based in Berlin. Next summer, 2013, will mark the fourth Summer Session. PICTURE BERLIN is a 5 week program. (mehr …)
