    Zheng Yaohua | Behind

„Few people know what they look like from behind. This book consists photographs selected from my work between 2003 and 2007, might be seen as mirrors in a fitting room.

During the tough process of sequencing, scanning and dust-removing, I repeatedly stared at these portraitures and their fine details, sometimes seeing nothing, sometimes seeing something behind what I was looking at.“

  • The Flaming Lips Feat. Lightning Bolt – I Wanna Get High But I Don’t Want Brain Damage

    [pro-player width=“700″ height=“360″]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOUtDxIoKB0[/pro-player]

This actually a dream team joining for an unexpected piece of psychedelic nonsense. If you’re expecting a really beautiful new track by The Flaming Lips, you’ll be disappointed. If you can catch both bands live on (or under the) stage, go for it. If you like it, then this might be easier to understand. Lightning Bolt live is just an incredible freeing experience.

  • Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests

I love almost still videos as you can see in my videos. Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests have been a big influence for me, he shot around 500 portraits and the original material was around two minutes each and was stretched to five minutes in slow motion. You can buy a limited edition DVD in an LP-shaped set with 13 original Ilford fiber paper photographs for 250 bucks here. The great music is by Britta Phillips and Dean Wareham. Dean Wareham is known to have played in Galaxie 500 and Luna.

    Miriam O’Connor | Attention Seekers

Produced over a period of two years, Attention Seekers are a personal portrayal and playful response to everyday scenes, arbitrary spaces and people encountered by photographer Miriam O’ Connor.

While the ordinary or the everyday are habitually tied up with concepts of familiarity and routine, it is here that O’ Connor discovers infinite possibilities for image making, slicing out its details which petition for attention and assimilate allure. The series is characterised by its fragmentary nature, where the interplay of colour, form, scale and sequencing exhibit ambiguous clues and mischievous impressions of O’ Connor’s voyages into the familiar terrain of the everyday. • The Avant/Garde Diaries

    The Avant/Garde Diaries

An interesting new project initiated by Mercedes-Benz:
„The Avant/Garde Diaries is a digital portrait magazine that documents personal views on the avant-garde.
Rather than labeling people avant-garde, we try to see through the eyes of people, who we admire for what they do. For each article we ask contributors from the creative field to introduce someone or something they consider to be ahead of time and explain why.

The result will be a compendium of various, very personal perspectives that disclose new ways of thinking and spread inspiration. (mehr …)
