No need to introduce René Burri, the legendary Swiss photographer born in Zurich – his portraits of Che Guevara, Le Corbusier or Picasso are true icons.

However, there is still a lot to discover: Burri, who has been a member of the Magnum agency since 1959 and famous for his black-and-white photographs, always carried along at least two cameras. While shooting in black and white, he would always take color pictures.

    René Burri says :

“I have led a double life as a photographer – one in black and white and one in color.” (mehr …)

    Cindy Sherman
    ‘Untitled Horrors’
    Moderna Museet, Stockholm
    19.10.2013 – 19.01.2014

Cindy Sherman is one of today’s most important artists. Her photography is instantly accessible, but also labyrinthine and contradictory. The artist herself is both model and photographer, but the pictures are not portraits. Sherman’s works conjure up narratives without revealing anything themselves. They cull material from a flow of film, art and media, creating links between the familiar and the unknown. What in her pictures do we want to believe, and why? Cindy Sherman circumvents the rational, categorical eye. (mehr …)

    pavlov’s dog / raum für fotografie / Bergstrasse 19 / 10115 Berlin

In mathematical logic the term identity is one of the fundamental truths that is not questionable: A=A. Every object is identical with itself. But once you leave the field of mathematics, the term identity starts to become ambivalent. Every person is searching for his or her identity and life seems to be one relentless attempt to become that certain someone that one is truly meant to be. (mehr …)
