The Time of Dreaming the World Awake is a portrait of a place, a landscape of possibility.
This photographic body of work is based in a small region in Southern France.
It centres on the story of Bugarach, the ‘magic’ mountain. Bugarach was somehow connected to a Mayan prophecy which indicated that the world as we know it, would end on December 21st, 2012. The prophecy claimed that this date would mark the beginning of a new era for humanity, a new and sublime future. Bugarach was to be the first bastion of this modern Arcadia.
Nothing happened last December, which was to be expected. Despite this, I realised how attractive it was to believe in the possibility of an idyll, even if it only existed in my mind.

I am a Dublin based Photographer who works with myth and landscape.
I am interested in how a particular landscape can hold stories of what’s been and what could be.
I recently completed an MFA at the University of Ulster under Paul Seawright and Donovan Wylie. Donovan advised me to only photograph when I felt moved to do so in order to allow the viewer to feel something on the other side. This ended up becoming my methodology for The Time of Dreaming the World Awake.
I was fortunate to win the Portfolio Award at PhotoIreland, 2013 for this body of work.
I was also chosen to be part of the Belfast Photo Festival Open Submission exhibition, which was curated, by Alec Soth and Brett Rogers. The Time of Dreaming the World Awake was exhibited this summer as part of New Irish Works, a selection of what constitutes a testament to the wealth and legacy of photography currently in Ireland.
Tangentially to personal projects, I also work as one half of seanandyvette photography with my husband Sean Breithaupt. Our commissioned work is predominantly for design and advertising agencies as well as editorial portraiture.
