THERE THERE is a photographic event in Cork City, curated by Stag & Deer and launching on Thursday, October 18th 2012, 6 pm with the opening of Viviane Sassen’s Parasomnia at the Crawford Art Gallery, Cork, Ireland.
THERE THERE will bring more than 30 international, national and local lens based artists under one banner.
There’ll be six different exhibitions with different concerns sharing a common thematic framework, responses to otherness. We have secured an internationally recognised female photographer to anchor the event, Viviane Sassen.

Curators Stag & Deer wish to promote emerging and established artists while also combining national/international artists for exhibitions and lectures.
The basic thematic framework for THERE THERE is otherness and the possible re-connections and interpretations of the world we are immersed in.
As exhibition-makers, Stag & Deer are fascinated with the communicative power that photographic images hold and the contextualisation of different photographic/lens-based works from different parts of the globe in an Irish situation. As global citizens, we all are deep in socially constructed signs loaded with commercial and political connotations, with other humane signs going and remaining unnoticed, i.e. how we relate to each other and the gifts that happen in living.
THERE THERE will be a space that is open for imaginative re-positionings and crucially one of wonder that allows the familiar and unfamiliar to weave together. The ambition behind THERE THERE will be to open up a gap or break for us as situated beings to re-imagine our place with each other and our surroundings.

THERE THERE curators Pádraig Spillane & Pamela Condell – aka Stag & Deer – began in April 2010:
„Our purpose as exhibition-makers is the promotion of fine art and the discipline of contemporary photography in innovative ways, for artists and the participation of the exhibition-goer.
Our goal is to facilitate the needs of emerging and established artists in the visual arts with a concentration on the photographic. We do this by setting up guerilla galleries within a slack space or site-specific location. Through this method of operating exhibitions we hope to showcase contemporary art in a stimulating and vital manner.
Our name Stag & Deer generates a presence for us as exhibition makers without being predominant over the work. As we move from space to space we have a representative identity to stabilise the project as a whole. Therefore, Stag & Deer stands as an access point to a space and show.“
